We had a great weekend hanging out with former library grad students who all converged in NC for a weekend of goodbye/engagement/housewarming parties. The Cupcakes returned from their engagement island with surprising news of an adoption (stay tuned on their blogs, I am sure it will be discussed). Miles approved of Sammie who is still deciding if she has found her “forever home” or not. She has the same energy as Miles but is more Bert’s size with super soft fur. We hope we get to see her again. Now I am off to Atlanta as I near my last official day of work. I am driving my company car and passing it off to the next lucky employee. Goodbye Volvo S60, I hardly knew you.

I guess I am going to have to get used to Carolina blue and angry looking rams since I will be starting as a full time graduate student at the School of Information and Library Science at UNC in August! Today I let my very nice manager at my very nice paying job know about my plans and I really have mixed feelings leaving a very good situation for an uncertain, unknown future. However, I am excited about spending my time and energy actually learning and growing rather than selling and traveling. Before school starts, I will be on tour in a city near you! I am scheduled to be in: Washington (state and DC), Idaho, Montana, Maryland, New Jersey, Missouri, and Kansas. More thoughts on school and photos from the above mentioned places to come!

It was a relatively uneventful week given I spent the first half of it in bed trying to rid myself of some sort of fevering and aching illness. Miles and I have been making our circuit of the neighborhood most mornings. We’ve been admiring the progress of our new town pool being built next to the ‘hood and running into pretty much the same asian grandparents taking their grandkids for walks in the park. We get big smiles from the elderly asian couple that walk together slowly– she walks backward and he walks forward in front of her (they can’t see each other). The weather has been pretty amazing for morning walks but it is getting too hot by the middle of the day.
Ellen and I are starting to do more work on the garden now that we have actually have thriving plants (you can monitor the progress here). By “work” we mean watering.

We are also mourning the loss of Casco Bay Books. I don’t think it will really truly register until I am there in Portland–in just two short weeks!!. I can’t wait to hang out with the crew…also I will get to meet Miles’ cousin auntie Lulu for the first time! But it is going to be very strange and sad without the caffeine, magazine, clothing, and book fix from the store.

Happy first day of Spring! The arrival of Spring here is anticlimactic–it is gray and not particularly warm. However, there are several crocus (croci?) in our garden that are starting to flower!

After today, the 10 day forecast lists the highs in the 70s and 80s!
