I’ve started a new blog to collect my thoughts about school. I won’t abandon this one since it will remain the spot to collect my thoughts about my dog, wife, friends, family, and dinner. The new blog is: ilsdnw.com and features a 3 column style (new to me) and rotating headers! I will be featuring my collection of stupid signs and questionable information design among other stuff. I am also adding links to the library and techy stuff on that page. If you have any links to share, thoughts on my page, or suggestions on how to best present my work/school side, please let me know. I hope to use the new blog as a public way to capture what I am learning and figure out what I should be when I grow up!

i “upgraded” my blog software and i thought i had lost all of my blog for a second…more like 4 hours. anyway, it is coming back slowly but surely. you will see the sidebars and everything will be nice and new again.

I have a couple of books to loan/give out if anyone wants some late summer reading material:
Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel: This is a great coming of age story done in graphic novel form. Sorta like Dave Eggers but by a lesbian with a different story.

Wonder Boys by Michael Chabon. We have two copies of this (let me know if you are missing YOUR copy and I will send it to you) including one with a big silly photo of Michael Douglas on the cover. The cover is my least favorite part of this book. Otherwise, I think you would like it if you haven’t read it yet. I’ve been reading and enjoying his (that is Chapon’s, not Douglas’) latest book this month.

Um, I also have a copy of iCon: Steve Jobs, The Greatest Second Act in the History of Business UPDATED edition. I didn’t actually read this one but USA Today has some nice things to say about the book on the back cover and it is published by a leading publisher that is celebrating its bicentennial. Anyone want it?

A big congratulations to Dr. Hectic and Ms. Cupcakes who have announced their engagement from the island of Ocracoke! Assuming they are getting married next year (and assuming we’re invited), that means four weddings and four babies* are being conducted/produced by our friends and acquaintances over the next 12 months or so.

*None of those babies are connected to the marriages…as far as I know.

My comments are doing funky things. I just found a bunch of comments waiting in a moderation queue that I didn’t know I had (sorry Danni). Please do comment! I will work on upgrading my blog to the latest WordPress version which should help things… And yes, Danni, that is Sonja staring down at y’all from my header. You better watch out because she may be carrying a weapon or climbing into your sink.

Speaking of dogs, we will be meeting Bert’s newly adopted sister Sammie this upcoming weekend when she and her brother (along with Brad and Stef) come to visit:

My one splurge in the fall will be a trip to Austin for the Austin City Limits Festival September 14-16 (I am flying in on the 13th, out on the 17th). I bought two tickets with the intention of brining E but she isn’t planning on going SOooo, I have one ticket to the sold out festival, a variety of hotel options reserved depending on the crowd that ends up going, and at least one friend (B-rad) who has committed to join me in Austin…anyone else want to go? Dad? Adam? Danni? Alex? anyone?

UPDATE: One person is in line for the ticket already…going fast!

I guess I am going to have to get used to Carolina blue and angry looking rams since I will be starting as a full time graduate student at the School of Information and Library Science at UNC in August! Today I let my very nice manager at my very nice paying job know about my plans and I really have mixed feelings leaving a very good situation for an uncertain, unknown future. However, I am excited about spending my time and energy actually learning and growing rather than selling and traveling. Before school starts, I will be on tour in a city near you! I am scheduled to be in: Washington (state and DC), Idaho, Montana, Maryland, New Jersey, Missouri, and Kansas. More thoughts on school and photos from the above mentioned places to come!
