Land ho!

Slightly influenced by Liz’s earlier post about the Flatpak homes (but actually before then), I have been looking at land listings. I came across this one which looks nice! Ellen and I drove to see it today on our way back from Saxapahaw where we went to a little farmer’s market and watched a band for a little while (next time, we will bring dinner and a blanket but the blueberry chevre tart was excellent). Anyway, back to the land…I am not sure if we really want to get involved with building a house (even a modern modular one) but nice wooded land with a fenced in yard for Miles is very appealing these days. I am going to try to talk to the Dwell homes sales people and see what the process is like and what are the real costs.

  • i’m going to be so jealous if you end up in a flatpack house — no, actually, i hope you do, just add on a lovely wee guest wing for me and my progeny.

  • Our friends, Andrea and Cork, are currently in negotiations with Dwell homes to see if they can get one built in SF. The houses seem so cool!!

  • By the way, the address is great. I love the idea of Daisy Lane. It reminds me of the street that I lived on in Nutley, 23 Calico Lane.

  • Neat! They have an office in Hillsborough, NC–and a job opening!

The Flatpack houses run $200/sq foot, plus….

  • Yeah, it may be cheaper to just go through a regular builder (as low as $100 sq/foot around here). Plus I talked to folks who built a house in the country and it sounds like who your builder is determines how easily you get your CO and other permits from the county. The easiest solution would be to find a house for sale and maybe just make the changes to fit what we are looking for. Aside from the modern stuff, I really just want a nice, private backyard and a screened in porch!
